Well, although most Western scholarship transliterates the ancient writings of Buddhism from Pali, Sanskrit, etc.. in academic rigor, they almost exclusively use Western ideas of language to influence understanding of the teachings. This results in great misunderstanding of these concepts of mind and mental constructions of perception in human life. Buddhists are taught specifically to eschew "self-centered" constructions.
