The mind is a lens by which to experience Buddhahood, unproduced but witnessed in its productions. At this stage of teachings, the 8th consciousness or Alaya, is considered the repository of all that is discriminated and to be separated of. This, of course, obviates the question of “where” is the “I” that discriminates this separation? The later development of the 9th or Amala consciousness provides a sort of mental cushion for this conundrum, a place of “residence” for the non-instantiation of quiescent energy.

Q and A - Buddhaness

Buddha is the energy of formations. We can witness and therefore experience the Buddha in the workings and instantiations of all phenomena through the training of our mind. This is Buddhaness or Buddhahood. Technically speaking, Buddha is by nature non-being, as it is not instantiated but only witnessed.
